Brompton have created an ingenious system for carrying luggage on the front of the bike. The front carrier block allows you to attach any compatible Brompton bag onto the front of the bike. The luggage block is attached on the main frame and thus doesn't move when you steer (unlike traditional front pannier systems) creates a low centre of gravity. Unlike traditional cycle touring bikes that can carry 2 front panniers, 2 rear pannier, handle bar bag, saddle bag, and even more cargo on the rear rack (if require), our preferred luggage set up uses only 2 bags, the Brompton T-Bag mounted on the front carrier block and a rucksack on the rear (strapped down to the saddle and rear rack). We have tried and tested various luggage options (including Brompton's own rear Rack Bag) but settled on the 'T Bag - Rucksack' combo as it provides us with optimum combination of carrying capacity combined with flexibility. (When off the bike, we can simple put the rucksack on our back, carry the bike in one hand and the T-Bag in the other - making it easy to step on and off trains, etc.) This set up, when compared with a traditional touring set up, does however afford us less storage space, meaning we have to be a lot more considered with our choice of kit. (Currently we have been using the 31 litre T Bag and a 65 litre Vango Sherpa rucksack) |
